Quay 2015, 2016

New cargo terminal in Sydhavnen operational

The new Limfjordskaj III quay is now partially operational. The quay is planned to have a water depth of 9 m (currently 7 m). The final dredging to a water depth of 9 m is expected to be completed in late 2023.

With the construction of Limfjordskaj III, the Port of Thyboron has added 220 extra quay metres to its capacity for the cargo segment, along with a new 170,000 m2 area of adjacent land for cargo handling.

The quay is ideal for bulk cargo, with easy access to the main road from the quay and ample space for safe truck manoeuvres.

It offers ample space for the cargo sector to establish efficient logistics solutions, such as bulk cargo sheds, tank systems, outdoor storage bays, etc., at a location on the doorstep to the North Sea.

The new port area also doubles the port’s capacity for storing project cargo, such as for offshore wind farms in the North Sea, from 150,000 to 300 000 m2.

Just 200 metres from quay to main road

The Port of Thyboron extends parallel to the main road. The port is being expanded in a direction away from the town centre, along the main road towards the south. The new Limfjordskaj III is situated very close to the main road and furthest away from the town. Trucks have ample room to manoeuvre right up to cargo vessels and quick access to the road network, without having to pass through town.

Dedicated terminal for cargo handling

Limfjordskaj III is a newly built quay that will become operational in stages during 2023. The new quay, together with 170,000 m2 of quayside land makes up a dedicated terminal suitable for handling all types of bulk cargo. There is ample room for tank systems with direct pipes to the quay and bulk cargo sheds for the temporary storage of cargo before shipment or after unloading.

Also suitable for project cargo

The amount of space is vital for offshore energy projects. Quayside land makes any offshore energy project more cost-efficient. The Port of Thyboron’s large areas between the quays and the road offer great advantages to both the offshore wind and onshore energy sector. Work can be done without disruption when storing the huge components. The new land adjacent to Limfjordskaj III is next door to the Limfjordskaj II project quay, effectively doubling the storage capacity in a large contiguous 300,000 m2 area.

Establishment of stevedore facilities

Large newly established areas provide great opportunities to implement efficient new logistics solutions. This offers new potential, and there is now ample room for these in Sydhavnen at the Port of Thyboron.
