Thyboron NordsoRal A/S

Largest gravel terminal in Denmark

Thyborøn Nordsøral A/S is owned by Belgian Group De Cloedt, and based at the Port of Thyboron, where it has Denmark’s largest gravel terminal.

Volume and quality

- excavating, sailing and loading marine rubble

Ships are Thyborøn NordsøRal’s lifeline. This applies to marine rubble dredgers and cargo ships.
On 1 September 2015, Group De Cloedt bought Sand Harrier, a 2,500 m3 suction dredger, which was then renamed DC Ostend. The vessel was to exclusively service Thyboron and the group’s other sites in Denmark. With the purchase of this ship, Thyborøn Nordsøral A/S finally became independent of external suppliers, which is important in a market where ship capacity is in short supply.

The launch of the DC Orisant newbuilding in 2019 marked a major leap. This is a fantastic extraction vessel with a capacity of 8,000 m3, which supplies sorting sites in Poland, Denmark and Belgium with gravel in turn.

Thyborøn Nordsøral’s dredging areas lie approx. 20 nautical miles from Thyboron, and our dredger needs approx. 20 hours for a round trip. A round trip consists of extraction, sailing to Thyboron, unloading and sailing back to the dredging area again.

Thyborøn Nordsøral A/S delivers to construction industry customers in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. We sometimes use our suction dredger for this, which sails directly to customers in the south, or we use DC Eems, the group’s 4,750-tonne cargo ship. There are also a number of external cargo ships which we charter as required. Our vessels also supply the group’s other sites in Copenhagen, Vordingborg, Nakskov and Kalundborg.

Own solution

When a ship comes in carrying raw material, Thyborøn Nordøral A/S receives the gravel and sorts it into sizes using the sorting plant on the quayside land. The sorted gravel is then moved to the finished goods stockpile. When orders are received, trucks and ships are loaded with finished goods as required. There is an increasing trend of delivering more finished goods by sea rather than by truck, to relieve the road network.
