The Port of Thyborøn is an independent municipal port, which is owned by Lemvig Municipality. The port has independent budget and accounting, an independent executive management team and a professional Board of Directors.
The port was founded by the Danish State in pursuance of the Act of 29 May 1914, which means that the port has already celebrated its centenary. With strong roots in the fishing industry, the port is now one of Denmark's three largest fishing ports (by volume and value) and currently the home port for about 100 fishing vessels. Over the years, the maritime service industry at Thyborøn has developed and bulk activities have increased significantly in the last ten years. Thyborøn is now an important break bulk port on the Danish North Sea coast.
